The College of New Jersey, often abbreviated to simply TCNJ, is a public, coeducational university located in Ewing, which is a township in Mercer County, in the US state of New Jersey, with more than 36 000 people, living within its limits, as estimated during the 2009 census.
TCNJ was established in 1855, by an act of the New Jersey Legislature, and was the 1st normal school in the state and the 5th in the US. It was originally located in Trenton, but was moved to its present location, in adjacent Ewing Township, during the 1930s. Since first opening its doors to students, the college has undergone several name changes, until it adopted its current name, in 1996.
The College of New Jersey currently offers its students four-year bachelor's degree programs and master's degree programs, being academically organized into 7 schools, overall offering more than 50 liberal arts and professional programs.
TCNJ's athletic teams are nicknamed the Lions and they compete in NCAA Division III, in which they won a total of 38 national titles, until now. Their distinctive colors are TCNJ Blue and TCNJ Gold and their mascot is Roscoe the Lion.
